Kristen Hamilton announces retirement at end of 2025 season

Kansas City Current forward Kristen Hamilton announced that she will retire from professional soccer at the end of the 2025 season. Hamilton joined the league as the final player selected in the 2014 NWSL College Draft and went on to be part of a dynasty and then help an expansion franchise to its first-ever NWSL final. From 2016 to 2019 she won three NWSL Championships and one NWSL Shield with the Western New York Flash and then the North Carolina Courage. A veteran of the league, Hamilton has logged over 10,200 career minutes across all competitions. Across 147 regular season appearances she has recorded 26 goals and 12 assists. Hamilton has not made an appearance in 2025 as she has dealt with injuries amid a deep forward pool.

NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman recieves 3-year contract extension

Berman has been offered a three-year contract extension by the National Women’s Soccer League four-person executive committee, sources tell The Athletic, Sportico, and ESPN. The commissioner’s initial four-year deal expires after this season. She took over as commissioner in April 2022 as the NWSL was reeling from a league-wide reckoning. Though her leadership hasn’t been without controversy, Berman has overseen multiple rounds of expansion and renegotiation of media rights deals.

Boston Legacy sign Chloe Ricketts to a pre-contract

Expansion club Boston Legacy FC announced two player signings this week. The first, a pre-contract for 18-year-old Chloe Ricketts, who will finish her season with the Houston Dash. She is signed through 2028 with a mutual option for 2029. The second was Brazilian international forward Amanda Gutierres, who was a finalist for the 2025 Ballon D’Or.

Matt Beard dies aged 47

Liverpool’s women’s team announced on Saturday that their former manager, Matt Beard, had passed away at the age of 47. Beard managed Liverpool from 2012-2015, winning the WSL in 2013 and 2014. The English coach had a stint in the NWSL, coaching the Boston Breakers from 2016 to 2017. He returned to coach Liverpool from 2021-2025, earning promotion back to the WSL in 2021. He was appointed Burnley boss in June but resigned in August. Both Liverpool and Burnley postponed their weekend matches in the wake of the shocking news. An outpouring of tributes to Beard from former players, clubs, and coaching colleagues has flooded the media.

Savannah DeMelo discharged from hospital, resting in Louisville

Racing Louisville announced that midfielder Savannah DeMelo “has been discharged from the hospital and is resting back in Louisville with her family” after a medical emergency on the field on September 14 saw her taken off the field in an ambulance and hospitalized in Seattle.

Boston Legacy announces stadium renovation financing

Boston Legacy FC announced on Wednesday that the club has secured financing for its stadium renovation for White Stadium. The financing, which comes from Bank of America, will total $100 million for development and construction purposes. “The financing will support the extensive rebuilding of the West Grandstand and adjacent areas at White Stadium,” a press release stated.

NWSL announces first-ever Combine in December

The National Women’s Soccer League has announced its first-ever Combine, designed to “showcase top youth and college-aged talent as part of NWSL’s expanded player pathway.” The league stated the Combine will take place over three days in December, but the location and specific dates were not released. There will be an Adult Combine (U23-18) and youth Combine (U17-13). The news comes after the removal of the NWSL Draft ahead of the 2025 season.

Toni Pressley to coach U.S. U-18 WNT

Longtime professional Toni Pressley was named head coach of the United States U-18 women’s national team on Tuesday. Pressley, a Florida State graduate who started her professional career in the W-League, joins U.S. Soccer after serving as an assistant coach for UMF Afturelding in Iceland’s second division. She also worked with their U-16 and U-20 teams. Pressley represented the U.S. at the U-17, U-18 and U-23 levels, and competed in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2010.

Savannah DeMelo “awake and in good spirits”, game to resume Tuesday behind closed doors

Racing Louisville provided an update on midfielder Savannah DeMelo’s health after a medical emergency during Sunday night’s Seattle-Louisville game that saw the match suspended and DeMelo taken off the field in an ambulance. “She is awake and in good spirits at a local hospital, surrounded by family, loved ones and medical staff, and is undergoing testing to determine what occurred Sunday.”

“I’m lucky to have my family with me while I’m waiting for test results to come back,” DeMelo said in the release. “I’m extremely thankful to our whole medical staff for the quick response. They’ve been with me every step of the way. The support from everyone has truly meant the world to me, and I’m excited to cheer on the girls this week.”

The game will resume at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday behind closed doors at Lumen Field. The clubs will pick up play at the start of the second half with the score 0-0.

Angel City loans Lily Nabet to Fort Lauderdale United

Angel City FC has loaned Lily Nabet to Fort Lauderdale United FC of the Gainbridge Super League. The 25-year-old midfielder joined Angel City in the 2022 NWSL draft out of Duke, and has earned 37 caps for the club. This season, she has played just once, entering Angel City’s September 7 loss to Gotham as a substitute in second-half stoppage time. Fort Lauderdale lost to the Tampa Bay Sun in extra time of the finals of the Super League’s last season.
